Royal Mencap Society (Mencap) conditions of entry to the 2023 TCS London Marathon
1. These terms and conditions apply to you if your registration for the 2023 TCS London Marathon is accepted by Mencap.
2. You must be 18 years or older on the day of the event
3. We expect to receive more applications than we have places for the 2023 TCS London Marathon and therefore reserve the right not to accept your application.
4. If your application is accepted you must pay a non-refundable registration fee of £100 to confirm your place. We must receive your payment within one week of being offered a place, if we don’t receive payment by this date we reserve the right to offer it to someone else.
5. Once we have received your registration fee we will send you a fundraising pack to support you with your fundraising plans and help you to reach your target.
6. If your application is successful you will also be required to sign up to, and comply with, the TCS London Marathon event rules and/or terms and conditions. Please note that Mencap is not responsible for the organisation or management of the event and therefore we shall have no liability to you for any injury, damage or loss suffered by you when taking part in or in connection with the event. Please refer to the TCS London Marathon’s conditions of entry.
7. If you are unsure of your physical ability to take part, you should seek medical advice from your doctor to ensure that you are physically fit to participate, and it is extremely important that you are realistic about your ability to participate.
8. You agree to raise £2500 in sponsorship that is exclusive of gift aid and the registration fee. The fundraising deadlines for Mencap to receive your sponsorship are:
9. Milestones committed to:
- £500 – 1st December 2022
- £1000 – 15 January 2023
- £1500 – 23 March 2023
- £2500 – 23 May 2023 one month after race day
10. Mencap may withdraw a place if it considers that you are not committed to raising the sponsorship amount.
11. The registration fee is refundable only if the event is cancelled. If you withdraw from the event you must notify Mencap on 020 7696 6946 or email marathonteam@mencap.org.uk.
12. If you withdraw from the 2023 TCS London Marathon due to injury we may be able to defer your place for one year onto the 2024 TCS London Marathon. You will need to make up any difference in fundraising during this marathon year. This will be decided on a case by case basis and is not definite.
13. If for any reason you choose not to take part in the event or the event is cancelled, all sponsor forms and money collected must be forwarded to Mencap and will not be refunded without a written request from individual sponsors.
14. Money raised for the event can be paid to Mencap via:

- Sending a cheque to Mencap Events Team, 6 Cyrus Way, Hampton, Peterborough, PE7 8HP
15. This agreement is with the Royal Mencap Society registered charity number 222377.
16. In fundraising for Mencap you agree:
- To submit all used and unused sponsorship forms
- Not to reproduce Mencap’s logo without permission
- Not to collect in a private place without first obtaining a collector’s licence from the local authority
- Not to raise funds by carrying out house to house collections
- Not to raise funds by conducting a public lottery or raffle
- Not to do anything to bring the name of Mencap into disrepute
17. By taking part in the event, you confirm you are happy for your name, footage or photographs to be taken during your participation in the TCS London Marathon. Any photographs or video footage may be used on Mencap’s website or social media networks.
