Mencap conditions of entry to the 2023 Great North Run

  1. This agreement is with the Royal Mencap Society registered charity number 222377.

 

  1. These terms and conditions apply to your registration for the 2023 Great North Run. 

 

  1. We reserve the right not to accept your application.

 

  1. All runners must be 18 years or older on the day of the event.

 

  1. You enter the Great North Run entirely at your own risk and Mencap shall not be liable for any injury or loss which you may suffer or incur as a result of your participation in this event.

 

  1. You must abide by the rules, instructions and regulations provided by Mencap staff, contracted agencies, officials and police.

 

  1. If you are unsure of your physical ability to take part, you should take medical advice from your doctor to ensure that you are physically fit to participate and it is extremely important that you are realistic about your abilities to participate.

 

  1. To receive a place in the Great North Run, you must pay Mencap a non-refundable registration fee of £25.

 

  1. You also agree to raise £395 in sponsorship which is exclusive of gift aid. The fundraising deadlines for Mencap to receive sponsorship are:
      1. £150 by 3 June 2023
      2. £395 by 30 September 2023

 

  1. Mencap reserves the right to inform the organisers of any participants who do not raise the full fundraising amount. This may result in the organisers barring them from taking part in future events they hold.

 

  1. Mencap may withdraw a place if it considers that you are not committed to raising the sponsorship amount.

 

  1. The registration fee is refundable only if the event is cancelled by Mencap. The registration fee will not be refunded for any other reason. If you withdraw you must notify Mencap on 020 7696 6946 or email events@mencap.org.uk.

 

  1. If for any reason you choose not to take part or the event is cancelled, all sponsorship forms and money collected must be forwarded to Mencap and will not be refunded without a written request from individual sponsors.

 

  1. You must pass onto Mencap all monies raised in connection with the event. You can:
      1. Pay online with your credit or debit card
      2. Raise funds through JustGiving https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising-page/creation/?campaignShortName=...
      3. Send cheques made payable to Mencap, 6 Cyrus Way, Hampton, Peterborough, PE7 8HP

 

  1. By taking part in the event, you confirm that you are happy for your name, footage or photographs taken during your participation in the Great North Run be used to publicise Mencap’s work. Any photographs or video footage may be used on Mencap’s website, social media networks.

 

  1. By registering for the event with Mencap you accept that we will share your personal details (name and email address) with Great Run so that Great Run can email the participant in order to fulfil their event entry.

 

  1. In fundraising for Mencap you agree:
      1. To submit all used and unused sponsorship forms
      2. Not to reproduce Mencap’s logo without permission
      3. Not to collect in a private place without first obtaining a collector’s licence from the local authority
      4. Not to raise funds by carrying out house to house collections
      5. Not to raise funds by conducting a public lottery or raffle
      6. Not to do anything to bring the name of Mencap into disrepute.
