Social care for people with a learning disability is at crisis point. Families have suffered greatly, especially during the coronavirus lockdown with devastating cuts to their support.
Social care allows people with a learning disability to live independent lives and gives their families the support they desperately need. But the social care sector has seen a decade of cuts and underinvestment and struggled to meet people’s needs even before the coronavirus pandemic.
In September, Mencap will be telling Chancellor Rishi Sunak why he must spend more on social care as part of the government’s 2020 Comprehensive Spending Review. This is when the government decides how much money it plans to spend over the next three years.
We want to tell him that thousands of people support our call for greater investment in social care so that people with a learning disability can live happy, healthy lives.
You can help by signing the petition and encouraging your friends and family to sign it too.
This is an incredible opportunity to influence the government and show them that people with a learning disability and their families must not be forgotten.
